All Aboard the Polar Express!!! On Friday the December 16th, students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade got their tickets punched to board the “Polar Express Watch Party” train. Mrs. Grisham’s students took a little time out to enjoy the movie The Polar Express based on the popular children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. While viewing the movie, the students were treated to “hot-hot-hot chocolate” by a dancing Mrs. Grisham! The boys and girls also were served chocolate chip cookies too. Yum! As the grand finale, each student received a jingle bell necklace to help them remember the special sound of Christmas.
Later that afternoon, all three 2nd grades joined the 6th grade math and literacy classes in the lunchroom for our annual Gingerbread House decorating. The 2nd graders eagerly await this special day. This activity served as a wrap-up for our third Common Core unit “Building Unlikely Friendships.” The friendships that were made between the 6th and 2nd graders are very special ones. While observing conversations between pairs of students, one could see how these unlikely friends were working together toward a common goal…completion of their gingerbread masterpieces. Of course, while working so meticulously each set of partners were munching on M & M’s, Skittles and licorice!!!
