Grandparents Honored at Sloan-Hendrix

On Thursday, September 22nd, Grandparents were treated to a Meet and Greet, Ice Cream Social at the Sloan-Hendrix Elementary School grades kindergarten through 4th.  Grandparents were invited to come to the campus and visit their grandchild/grandchildren’s classrooms.  After meeting the teachers and taking a tour of the classrooms to view all of the work that the students have already completed this year, the grandparents and students were given tickets to enjoy a free treat.  The treat was a bowl of Italian Ice.  Italian ice is a sweetened frozen dessert made with fruit or other natural or artificial food flavorings, similar to sorbet.  Buddy Nichols, along with help from his son, Scott Nichols, and granddaughters, Alyssa and Savannah, provided the sweet treat that was enjoyed by the grandparents and children.  The PTE organization set up a room so that grandparents and their “pride and joy” grandchildren could have their picture made at the event.  “Although, hot chocolate may have been more appropriate with the rainy weather, it is amazing how grandparents will brave any kind of weather for their grandchildren” stated Rick Tate, SH Elementary Principal, “we had a very good turn out of grandparents for the event.  We are very appreciative of all the interest and involvement in the education of our students.”
