On Friday, August 20, the Sloan-Hendrix FFA Livestock Show Team exhibited at the 2009 Lawrence County Fair. Those students participating this year include; Matthew Baldridge, Emily Bilbrey, Kristin Bratcher, Tyler Gillean, Amanda Holland, Kara Morris, Hunter Stallings, and Demi Stephens. The show began Friday morning with hogs. Matthew Baldridge had two entries and was assisted by Tyler Gillean. Matthew received Grand and Reserve Market Hog and was also Showmanship winner. The cattle show followed with Amanda Holland, Kara Morris, and Hunter Stallings exhibiting Angus cattle. Amanda received the Senior Showmanship award and Reserve Champion Angus Bull and Kara exhibited the Reserve Champion Angus Heifer. Hunter was a class winner. Demi Stephens exhibited the Grand Champion Shorthorn Heifer and received the Junior Showmanship award. Emily Bilbrey and Kristin Bratcher exhibited in the commercial class. Emily received Grand American Heifer and Kristin received Grand English Heifer. Autumn Blasingame, 2009 Sloan-Hendrix graduate exhibited Charolais and Brangus. Violet Taylor exhibited poultry as a 4-H member. Her project was auctioned and the winning bid went to Lakeview Angus Farms who returned the project to Violet.
The Showteam will be exhibiting at the Northeast Arkansas District Fair in Jonesboro and then will be at the Arkansas State Fair in October. FFA Showteam Advisor is Mr. Joe Wallis.
