Lawrence County Sheriff Jody Dotson was on campus Wednesday, October 24, for an assembly with the high school students in conjunction with
Red Ribbon Week.

Three Sloan-Hendrix students were selected for All-Region choir on Saturday, October 20.  Catrina Williams, 7th grader, has been selected for the Alto II section of the Junior High All-Region Womens' Choir. Sara Bowers, 11th grade, placed 24th in the Alto II section, placing her in the Senior High All-Region Womens' Choir. Ivory Wells, 11th grade, placed 8th in the Soprano I section, placing her in the Senior High All-Region Mixed Choir.  In addition, due to her high score at tryouts, Ivory Wells will audition for All-State Choir in February.

All-Region choirs are comprised of the best singers from schools in our region. Students are selected by blind auditions, trying out on 3 musical selections that were prepared in the weeks leading to auditions. 100 or more students auditioned on each voice part, with 45 selected from each section as members of the choir. These students will travel to ASU on November 3rd to participate in an all-day rehearsal and concert with the other students in the region who were placed in the All-Region choirs.

These people were among the hundreds at Sloan-Hendrix who wore pink on Friday, October 19 to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Sloan-Hendrix's flu shot clinic was held on Thursday, October 18.  Local parent volunteers were:  Patti Davis, April Rainwater, Natasha Jackson, Ali Seamans and Ashley Dixon.  The Dept. of Health workers were:  Amy Howell, RN, Pam Wileman, RN, Gwen Godwin, RN and Debbie Cato and Deanna Saunders clerical. Becky Foreman also helped.  The program was organized by Sloan-Hendrix school nurse, Susan Malone.  Approximately 230 students and staff received flu shots on Thursday.

Seven seniors from the Sloan-Hendrix medical occupations classes participated in “A Day in the Life” program at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro on Wednesday, October 10.

The SHHS FFA held a cookout on Friday, October 5 to thank those members who took part in the cleanup after the rodeo at the Lawrence County Fair.
On Wednesday, October 3, SHHS journalism students visited KAIT8 Studios and the Arkansas Radio Broadcasting Studios in Jonesboro.
