On Tuesday, October 27, twelve members of the Sloan-Hendrix FFA traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to attend the 88th National FFA Convention.  While there, they attended  the opening session on Wednesday and heard motivational speaker Rick Rigsby and spent time at the expo and shopping mall at the convention center.  The latter attended a concert featuring Jake Owen and Maddie & Tae.  On Thursday the group toured the Louisville Slugger Museum and Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby before attending a rodeo that night.  Sloan-Hendrix FFA Chapter Vice-President Haley Lingenfelter said, I had a really good time; there was a lot of stuff to do and see at the expo.  The concert was amazing.  I was a little surprised at the cost of everything, though.  Samuel Light added, "I personally enjoyed the whole trip, but the visit of Churchill Downs was my favorite.  The history represented by the Churchill grounds, its races, the many champion horses, and their personal history was very interesting.  The 88th National Convention itself was very inspirational especially the guest speaker, Rick Rigsby.   He spoke to us in a way that grabbed our attention and made us think about our future and encouraged us to grasp on to the opportunities that are being  offered because they won't always be there."  The attendees returned home on Friday, October 30.  The group was accompanied by chapter advisor Joe Wallis, and retired teacher / bus driver John Thomison.
