On April 7, 2018, two Sloan-Hendrix teams traveled to George Junior High School in Springdale, Arkansas, to participate in State Odyssey of the Mind.  “Odyssey of the Mind is an international creative problem-solving program that engages students in their learning by allowing their knowledge and ideas to come to life in an exciting, productive environment.  Participants build self-confidence, develop life skills, create new friendships, and are able to recognize and explore their true potential. OotM proves that students can have fun while they learn.” (Odysseyofthemind.com)

The 7th/8th grade team placed second and the 5th/6th grade team placed fifth.  The top two teams from each division and problem at state go on to World Odyssey of the Mind.  The 5th/6th grade team's problem was Triathalon Travels.  The students had to build a vehicle that someone could ride on and complete certain tasks.  The 7th/8th grade team's problem was Animal House.  The students had to build a balsa structure that would hold the team food as it supported weights.  The teams and their coaches worked very hard on their problems.  They spent many hours after school and on weekends preparing for the competition.

Fifth and sixth grade team members include Wilson Dean, River Lee, Julian Folk, Joel Hoffman, and coach Kristina Folk.  Seventh and eighth grade members include Keeley Dean, Dalton Cooper, Addison Doney, Arissa White, and coach Nikola Cooper.

Congratulations and
best of luck!
