January 2018

FBLA Spring Conference
Congratulations to Sr. Lady Hounds Annie Doney and Maddy Lamb for making the All-Tournament team at the Battle of the Border Tournament held January 17-20, 2018 at Corning.
Classes of Mr. Paul Hicks, Mrs. Heather Brand, and Mr. Isaac Blankenship were present at a dissection demonstration on Friday, January 12. Mr. Hicks and Mr. Blankenship dissected a squirrel and a fish. According to Mr. Hicks, dissection is important in the classroom to understand the body and the wider world of living things around us; to learn about creationism, ecology and evolution; and to hopefully ignite a studentís interest in science.  Photos by Amber Johnson.

The choir and band took a trip to Branson on Dec 20-21, 2017. Students in grades 9-12 were invited to attend. On the agenda was the indoor water park at the Castlerock Hotel, the Christmas Murder Mystery Theater and shopping at The Landing. There were 36 students and 10 chaperones in attendance. Riley Hubbard participated as a character in the dinner theater and won Outstanding Audience Actor for the evening. It was an enjoyable trip filled with laughter and memories for everyone involved.

Some of the 7th grade GT students have been working on another fundraiser for the Arkansas Children's Hospital. This year they chose to do a Greyhound Cookbook. They collected recipes from the faculty, the community, grandparents, parents, and students. They worked with Morris Press Cookbooks designing the cookbook and typing in recipes. They did an outstanding job. The students chose to dedicate the cookbook to a special teacher, Mrs. Lisa Holland. "I am touched by their kindness and drive to help others," said Mrs. Stephens. Seventh grade GT students working on the project are Lily Morris, Carley Morgan, Chaney Johnson, Dalton Cooper, Cade Grisham, Braden Cox, and Harper Rorex.
Cade Grisham won the Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot at Jonesboro on Sunday, January 7.  He made 20/25 free throws to win the 12-13 year old division.  Cade qualified to shoot in the state competition in Hot Springs in February.
River Lee wrote an awesome book review over the book Old Yeller in Mrs. Matheny's Class.
